Andalucia - Cordoba - part III

Cordoba Info.. from wiki

Situated in the center of Andalusian Autonomous Region, Cordoba is a great cultural referring in Europe. This ancient city, which has been declared World Heritage Site, is a mixture of the diverse cultures that settled in it throughout history.

Very few places in the world can boast of having been the capital of a Roman province (Hispania Ulterior), the capital of an Arab State (Al-Andalus, a highly civilized state in Southern Europe) and a Caliphate. Such splendour is palpable in the intellectual wealth of this centre of wisdom and knowledge, that has seen the birth of figures like Seneca, Averroes and Maimonides.

The historic quarter of Cordoba is a beautiful network of small streets, alleys, squares and whitewashed courtyards arranged around the Mosque-Cathedral, which reflects the importance of the city during medieval times. ....

Jalan lagi....

selepas puas berjalan di alhambra, Granada..kami meneruskan perjalanan ke Cordoba.. perjalanan melalui highway ke sini agak lenggang..seolah2 takde orang lalu sini..maybe sebab hari sume cuti..atau terlalu panas sampai orang tak berani nak keluar rumah..entahlah... tp suhu time ni 36 celcius..memang panas...(sesuai untuk tido di rumah/berendam dlm pool aje..) hehe.. sampai di Cordoba dlm jam 430 ptg, kami terus ke Mezquita, bekas masjid ketiga terbesar & mempunyai gereja di dalamnya.. ketika ini seni-seni islam dlm tu mmg masih jelas..mihrab juga masih terpelihara di situ.. cuma terdapat di beberapa sudut, ada patung2..& sudut2 spt dlm gereja.. suasana yang gelap agak menyuramkan suasana bekas masjid ini.. tapi perasaannya bila mengimbau kembali zaman silam.. bagaimana orang-orang islam yang membina tamadun yang tinggi & hebat ini boleh hancur & lebur..yg tinggal hanya cebisan sejarah.. sayu nye rasa hati..

lagi info :

The Mezquita dates back to the 10th century when Córdoba reached its zenith under a new emir, Abd ar-Rahman 111 who was one of the great rulers of Islamic history. At this time Córdoba was the largest, most prosperous cities of Europe, outshining Byzantium and Baghdad in science, culture and the arts. The development of the Great Mosque paralleled these new heights of splendour.
